PRP Therapy involves platelet-rich plasma (PRP) replacement therapy. This is done by injecting a person’s own platelets, which are rich in growth factors, back into the skin using a micro-needling technique.
The growth factors activate stem cells, already present in the skin, tricking them into "thinking" there's been an injury and that new younger tissue and collagen should generated. The result is younger-looking skin that glows. It can also be used to soften scarring.
The process involves:
- Extracting the patient’s own blood, as you would for a blood test.
- Isolating the platelets from the blood using a centrifuge machine and activating the platelets to produce platelet-rich plasma
- A micro-needling device is used to create multiple micro-punctures in the skin, which allows the growth factors to soak into the tissue, and also stimulates the tightening of the skin and rejuvenation of the collagen.
The PRP Facelift combines PRP replacement therapy with the use of dermal fillers to restore shape and volume in the face, particularly the cheeks, nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
